THE RURAL FAIR

The story revolves round Mahadeo’s family and is related to the social
issues in the rural Indian society. Mahadeo is poor farmer with two daughters and is expecting a third child soon. Everybody around him are very orthodox and believe in having a male child in the house, who then leads their family ahead and makes them and their family feel very proud. Later, the villagers and his friends and family members being very orthodox. Instead, he feels that the daughters fathers should be felicitated as they give their daughters to the grooms.
The ladies in the village indirectly suggest, Gauri to do her sonography and
detect the sex of the child, and if it be a girl child, then she could abort it !
Mahadeo and his family attend Tatyaba’s daughter’s marriage and to their surprise the marriage is broken off for the usual reason of dowry.
So he finds a good occasion of the ‘Fair’ when he has a plan to be executed.
On occasion of the fair he leaves ‘Vaishu’ the younger daughter in the fair and declares that she is lost and missing. On returning home, from the fair he realizes by himself that, “what has he done ! he should have committed a suicide and instead of bearing this burden and giving sorrow to the others, for no reasons.. But Mahadeo being helpless, had done this act and being sensitive even realizes and admits his mistakes and finally succeed in bringing her back home.

Mhais is the travelogue and satirical story about different types of people, written by well known Marathi writer and humorist Pu La Deshpande popularly known by his initials (“Pu. La.”) in 1960.
It starts on a Ratnagiri-Mumbai bus that is scheduled to leave at 5am Obviously, those boarding the bus have woken up at dusk, finished their morning chores and reported at the boarding point before 5. But we are talking about the State Transport bus whose engine starts rumbling on time but by the time the bus leaves Ratnagiri, it 7am already. Then there are the typical passengers- a sleepy old man, a cranky middle-aged person, the over-smart youngster and others- whose idiosyncratic behaviors pop up throughout the journey. As luck would have it, the already delayed bus bangs into a buffalo on the way and this adds to the commotion in the villagers  and at the same time satirical and humorous debate turn up in between  buffalo owner, his wife and villagers versus bus driver, conductor and travelers, Later the police turn up to investigate. they start panchanama and other side at the same time buffalo left with owner.
Audience gets entertained with satirical and humorous debate. This accident event storytelling with lightweight comedy has been presented as it is on big screen in front of audience.
